DJ NITE

I thought this clip made my day..

..but then I digged deeper, and found the genius that is Kari Niiranen aka DJ NITE! Make sure you peep Yle´s "Kotimaankasvot" from 2003. Speechless..

"YHTÄ SOITTOA" JO NELJÄ VUOSIKYMMENTÄ

Kari Niirasen, eli DJ NITEN ura on yli 40-vuotias.

Hurriganes...
-ollut mukana raittius- ym. valistuskiertueilla.....
-panosti Suomessa ensimmäisten joukossa voimakkaasti disc-jockeyn visuaaliseen puoleen; käytti savuja ja valoja, meikkasi, loi roolihahmoja ja pukeutui kimalteleviin asusteisiin.....
-toi ulkomaanmatkoiltaan Suomen disco-maailmaan uusia vaikutteita......

MUUTAMIA KOMMENTTEJA NITESTÄ:

"-Tutustuessani Niteen yli kolme vuosikymmentä sitten, minuun teki heti voimakkaan vaikutuksen kaverin kokonaisvaltainen oman alansa osaaminen.

"- Nite on itseoikeutettu Suomen DJ HALL OF FAMEN isäntä. Toiveissa on, että tulevaan kevyen musiikin museoon saataisiin DJ-kulttuuri osasto, jonka olennaiseksi osaksi tulisi Niten vaalima esine- ja levykokoelma. Niten ura on kolmen sukupolven soundtrack, heidän oman elämänsä ääniraita.

A DOG IN THE NIGHT

Way better than the a-side with the vocals.

Give it up for Mr Magnetonium for dropping the 411 on this.

"This record comes from the peak era of italo-disco. This release is pure quality, genius, so simple yet so brilliant. From the guys who brought the amazingly beautiful "Stop / Livin Up" release under BWH. This record is equally amazing, with a spectacular drumbeat and very nicely layered synth, parallel to "Stop" in brilliance and sequence, but a bit simpler and slightly shorter. Its a shame that this track is only 4:30 long and that the duo released only a handful of italo-disco gems altogether under the aliases of BWH, Blackway and Mr Master."

(LET´S JUST) STAY AWAY

The b-side of equally great "Did You Notice" (apparently a big two step tune at the time in London), this cut is a prime example of more soulful, laid back tunes this legendary label put out 1980.

1983

Whoops, I was cleaning up my apartment when I found this weird looking cd-case titled 1983. I think I received this from Berlin´s HHV some time last year and never saw it since. "We exclusively play tracks released in a single year per event in chronological order starting from 1979. In March we will be featuring the year 1983, April 1984, and so on until we hit the present.

For every party a fanzine with information on that year in rap will be published along with a mix CD. Music videos from the featured year will be shown as well as the title of each track playing at the moment."
